Hello!

I'm Tara

Hi, I’m Tara Lofrano, founder of Lickskillet Soap Co. My love for natural ingredients and curiosity about goat milk soap led me to start crafting my own, on Lickskillet road - right outside of Mansfield, Illinois, I use locally sourced goat milk from Swisher Hill Farm in Dewitt, Illinois.

Each bar is handmade using cold process, in small batches, to provide gentle, nourishing skincare without harsh chemicals. I believe in simple, pure beauty for your skin. I encourage you to take the leap toward natural skincare and experience the luxury of my handcrafted goat milk soap.

1. What makes goat milk soap unique?
We source fresh goat milk from Swisher Hill Farm in Dewitt, Illinois known for their prized Nigerian goats, blending it with premium oils and butters to create a creamy, luxurious lather. Goat milk also enhances the soap’s smooth texture and rich foaming qualities.

2. How is Lickskillet Soap Co.’s goat milk soap made?
All our soaps are handcrafted using a traditional cold-process method. We use fresh goat milk sourced locally and blend it with premium oils like olive, coconut, and shea butter. The soap is cured for six weeks, ensuring a long-lasting, high-quality bar.

3. Where did the name Lickskillet Soap Co. come from?

The name Lickskillet Soap Co. comes from the road I live on, just south of Mansfield, near Centerville, IL—a once bustling river and whistle-stop town in the late 1800s. Legend has it that a local innkeeper, known for her warm hospitality, would feed travelers and locals. After meals, she’d set the used skillets and plates out for local dogs and cats to lick clean!

4. What are the benefits of your ingredients?

  • Olive Oil: Known for its deeply moisturizing properties.

  • Coconut Oil: Provides a rich, creamy lather.

  • Shea Butter: A natural choice for soft, smooth skin.

  • Kaolin Clay: Gently cleanses and leaves skin refreshed.

  • Goat Milk: Enhances the creamy texture of our soap.

5. How long does a bar of goat milk soap last?

With proper care, a bar of our goat milk soap can last up to 4 weeks with daily use. To extend its life, store it on a well-drained soap dish and allow it to dry completely between uses.

6. Can I customize a soap order for gifts or events?

Yes! We offer custom soap orders for special occasions such as weddings, corporate events, or boutique retail. Whether you need a specific scent or personalized packaging, we can create soaps tailored to your needs. Contact us via email for more details.

7. How long will my goat milk soap stay fresh?

Our goat milk soaps remain effective for years, as the natural curing process continues to enhance the quality over time. While the scent may fade slightly after about a year, the soap’s beneficial properties remain intact.

8. Do you offer fragrance-free options?

Yes, our "Just Soap!" is completely unscented, ideal for those who prefer simplicity.

9. What are the shipping options and policies?

We ship our goat milk soaps within 1-3 business days using either USPS First Class or Priority Mail. Currently, we only ship to addresses in the United States. Please note, that once shipped, the arrival date is not guaranteed.

10. Can I place an order by phone or mail?

Absolutely! You can call us directly to place an order. For mail orders, please get in touch with us first to arrange details, and you can send a check by mail once your order is confirmed.

11. Do you have a catalog?

Our website serves as our full product catalog, where you can view all available goat milk soap varieties, including seasonal and specialty products.

12. Why is lye (sodium hydroxide) used in your soap?  Can you make it without it?

Lye is used in all true soap. You cannot make soap without it.  Once the lye is mixed with the oils during the soaping-making process, a reaction called saponification occurs over the next 24-48 hours. After this period, no lye remains and you have beautiful, handmade soap!

13. What is the difference between commercial (store-bought) soap and Goat Milk soap?

Many commercial soaps are made with synthetic detergents. Our handmade soap is crafted with nourishing, natural ingredients that provide a luxurious experience.
